Pastor, Kyra Levell Hawkins

Pastor Kyra Levell Hawkins, Sr. was born in Dallas, Texas the second of three boys of the late Alvin Lewis Hawkins and Johnnie Kaye Childres.

He was raised in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas and moved to DeSoto, TX where he is a proud graduate of DeSoto High School home of the “Fighting Eagles”.

As a child he attended First Thompson Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his uncle Pastor Darrell W. Pryor and was baptized at the age of 12. He later became a member of the New Covenant Missionary Baptist church also under Pastor Darrell Pryor and served in various ministries. Under the leadership of Pastor Pryor, Rev. Hawkins acknowledge and accepted the Lord’s calling upon his life to preach the Word of God and preached his first sermon August 18, 2002. He received his license to preach in 2002 and was ordained on January 30, 2005.

Recognizing that the Lord entrusted him with such a great responsibility, Pastor Hawkins felt the need to properly prepare for the ministry to which he was called and therefore, enrolled at Southern Bible in the Theology program.

While at Southern Bible was blessed to serve as President of the Theology class, President of the Student council, and President of the Presidents council. He also received the distinguished Dr. Harry S. Ironside Student Preacher of the year award at the 80th Anniversary Banquet in 2007.

He later united with the Sweet Home Baptist Church located in West Dallas under the leadership of Pastor W. L. Johnson. Under the leadership of Pastor Johnson, Rev. Hawkins served in various ministries two of which were life changing, Adult Men’s Sunday School Teacher and the Director of Evangelism.
